Material: Jarina: Phytelephas aequatorialis is a natural palm from the Amazon known as jarina, tagua, or vegetable ivory, so-called because its light-colored seeds are often used as a substitute for ivory.
Its growth is slow, reaching two meters after 35, 40 years. It produces only six to eight bunches of fruit a year, and each fruit contains only 8 to 12 seeds. When new, the seeds are liquid, as the coconut from Bahia. As they mature, they become milky and sweet, used as food by the indigenous people. When they reach full maturity, they become dense, giving rise to what we know as "vegetable ivory".
