The Young Adventurers

Product Description

The Young Adventurers is the amazing story of the coming-of-age of Harry Connor. Stuck in the suburbs with an apple-pie Mom and Willy Loman for a Dad, Harry's jouncing hormones become too much for his family. After getting into mischief with his gang and drooling over the neighborhood princess, Harry is whisked by his Dad into the straightjacket of strict education-a boarding school run by black-robed priests. A bleak world, with no fun and no girls. A universe where people act and speak differently from Harry's suburban milieu. Yet, in this strange world Harry finds his own liberation...thanks in part to Malouf, a 14-year-old student and natural born leader who dreams of conquering the world. Malouf is planning a great expedition to the Amazon. Harry becomes enticed. And when Malouf's call to adventure comes, Harry doesn't hesitate. He too will head to the jungle. A series of mishaps trigger Harry and Malouf's flight from the boarding school. If Alexander the Great could conquer the world, they too can head off, undaunted. Sylvie, a young friend from Malouf's village joins the pair. She's heading for Paris, where she wants to become a hairdresser. Their adventure together is joyous...and funny! Harry is smitten with first love. Three dreamy kids escaping towards the possible, heading towards their own warming suns of self realization, of freedom. And while they never quite make it to the Amazon nor to Paris, to their utter surprise, they all reach a destination far more satisfying: the state of mind where they discover their dreams can come true. the most enchanting of stories-sweet without being saccharine; innocent and yet, triumphant. It tells of that brief moment in all our lives when the sheer thirst for adventure is just too overwhelming to resist.
